In a video released today, Cllr Richard Lloyd, Leader of the Council, announced that the Railway Club had reopened its doors for the community.
The purchase and restoration of the Railway Club by the Town Council has been a massive win for Aylesbury, after the venue closed its doors in June 2023 and was at risk of being purchased by developers. The Town Council took it on to ensure it stayed in community use, and to preserve some of the club’s 65 year history (including over 20 years in the current building). In the video, Cllr Lloyd said:
“Aylesbury Town Council are extremely proud to have restored this venue, not only as a community hub, but also as part of Aylesbury’s history. We’re delighted to welcome you all back!”
Since the purchase, the Railway Club has undergone an extensive refurbishment, with fresh decoration and furnishings throughout. The public are invited to come and have a look, at a drop-in event on Thursday 30 October, between 3pm and 8pm, where they will be able to view the versatile spaces, including two large halls with a stage and bar, as well as two meeting rooms upstairs.
The Town Council would like to recognise those who helped make this all possible; The now-disbanded Railway Club Board of Trustees for choosing to keep the club within community use, the Town Council’s in-house maintenance team who were instrumental in the refurbishment including decorating, plumbing and building, and local contractors for their skills and support during the project - Albany Carpets, All Sparks Electrics Limited, First Choice Plumbing and Gas, Amp-air, Citytalk, Aylesbury Lock and Key, Ilianas Blinds and Curtains, RJW Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning, Aylesbury Fire Systems.
The Railway Club is now officially open for bookings, with the spaces available for community use including private bookings and public events. Visit Railway Club | Aylesbury Town Council for information and contact details (external site).
