Business owners have called on Buckinghamshire Council to take urgent action over parking problems they say are harming trade on a residential road.
A petition has been launched urging the council to review the use of a lay-by on Weedon Road, opposite Friends Food and Wine and Ocean Wave Neighbourhood Takeaway.
Those behind the petition claim the lay-by is being used for long-term parking by residents from nearby Priory Close, leaving little or no space for customers to stop.
The petition says some households own three or four vehicles, including households with vehicles owned by taxi drivers, and alleges the bay is being treated as “personal parking” rather than short-stay customer parking.
Business owners say they have raised concerns with the council repeatedly over a long period but claim no effective action has been taken.
They warn the situation is directly affecting footfall and leading to a loss of trade.
“With very limited footfall, we rely heavily on passing customers,” the petition states. “The ongoing misuse of this lay-by prevents customers from stopping and threatens our ability to continue operating.”
The petition calls for the introduction of double yellow lines along the lay-by, or at the very least a two-hour parking restriction, to ensure fair access for customers.
It says the measures would help protect local businesses and improve access to the shops.
