Thousands of goody bags have been given to Stoke Mandeville Hospital thanks to people in Haddenham, Monks Risborough and Princes Risborough.
Paula Tomkins, Eden Blossom, Carleen Acres and Rachael Paskin have put together the bags for NHS staff by asking people to leave gifts in boxes outside their homes. Carleen got involved after she saw a Facebook appeal from Eden on Facebook saying she had a collection box outside her house so she decided to follow suit.
Since January, Carleen has put together more than 400 boxes which are collected and delivered to Stoke Mandeville on a weekly basis. She praised the efforts of everyone involved.
She revealed: “Paula has also delivered coffee machines, freezers and microwaves. There has been even a coat stand and donations have even helped pay for a staffroom revamp at Wycombe General Hospital.”
Carleen said donations have been incredible and extremely well-received. In the box outside her house, she has recently displayed pictures from grateful staff.
She added: “The NHS at Stoke Mandeville never asked for any of this but their response and their thanks have just been incredible. They’ve not had time to stop and eat so they’ve had their little snack bag and just gone off with it.”
So far bags have been delivered to Stoke Mandeville Ambulance Station and baby unit, among other places, and Carleen said she and the other ladies will carry on putting the bags together as long as people donate. She’s even been approached by a local play school asking if children can add thank you cards.
She said: “People have jumped to the challenge of donating and have been incredible and really supportive and I know the NHS staff have really appreciated it. I’m overwhelmed by Risborough’s generosity. Risborough has really come up trumps.”
Look out for boxes on Westmead, Monks Risborough and Wycombe Road and Berryfield Road in Princes Risborough.
