The latest Covid-19 data for Buckinghamshire shows a substantial drop in new cases but some caution is required in how this is interpreted due to recent rule changes surrounding testing.
From the 11th January people are no longer required to take a PCR test if they test positive on a lateral flow home test but have no symptoms. This mean that if people do not report a positive result from a lateral flow test, then the case will be missed.
Anyone who develops one of the three main Covid-19 symptoms - a new cough, a high temperature or a loss of taste or smell - should stay at home, self-isolate and take a PCR test.
There were 4,938 new cases reported in the region in the last seven days – a decrease of 35% on the previous week. There has however been a slight uptick in cases over the past few days, probably due to the impact of schools.
The case rate for Buckinghamshire is 902.6 people per 100,000, dropping below 1,000 for the first time since mid-December.
Sadly, six people have been reported to have died with Covid-19 in the latest data, taking the overall total to 1,336 in the region.
63.4% of those eligible in Buckinghamshire have now had their booster shot, which experts say is critical for fighting the new variant. This is roughly in line with the overall UK figure of 63.7%.
