The Aylesbury Arm has been closed to navigation since mid-June due to low water levels, and now a Canal & River Trust spokesperson has confirmed to Bucks Radio, “Water is now being restored to this pound after an issue caused by interference with lock apparatus."
The charity is working hard to keep boats afloat, amid the challenges of an exceptionally dry spring and summer and the statutory works currently under way at Wilstone Reservoir. They would ask boaters and members of the public to report any interference to the equipment which is helping their team to do that critical work.
Regular dog walkers and canal path users in Aylesbury were left surprised after discovering a drained stretch of the Grand Union Canal’s Aylesbury Arm.
The section between Lock 16, near Park Street Bridge and Aquavale, and Lock 15 was left completely without water, with both locks standing empty.
One local dog walker told Bucks Radio they were concerned after spotting dead fish on the canal bed, and said the water levels appeared to be normal yesterday.
